I knew I wanted to do a short film on Run Dem – I knew events I could easily cover and individuals I was interested in.So it was about mapping out the events, their dates, times and whether I could film it, at that particular time.I tried to explore a few different stories and then when I tried to put them together, they just didn’t work for one reason or another. He would then advise as to whether it would work or not. But it was also about my own, personal trial and error.I wanted to cover so much, but it was impossible, the story would get completely lost and just became a slide show. For example, there is a scene where I film a girl running.But perhaps that’s the nature of documentary and story, things chop and change. There were so many angles to explore, but I had to narrow and focus.I had an ideal in my head, but then in reality it didn’t work or didn’t happen, which was frustrating. I sat down with my director friend and told him what I wanted to film and what I wanted to capture.
